It's been a while since I last uploaded on here, so I hope that this post finds you well and that 2016 has so far been a good one. If you've been here for a while, you'll no doubt notice that there have been some changes to my website, lots of changes - I'm hoping that you like them! So much has been going on in the past year and I felt that I wanted to re-launch this website this year with some fresh content, renewed energy and enthusiasm! Sometimes we need to take a big step back, re-evaluate our priorities, take some time for these priorities and make sure that we are being true to ourselves.
Life can become overwhelming when there are aspects that are out of alignment, ill-health, too many demands on time and energy, emotional upsets, etc. making it hard to see the wood for the trees, so to speak! I feel too that we can be our own worst enemy by placing way too much pressure on ourselves to be an all-singing, all-dancing, multi-tasking extraordinaire - when in actual fact we are doing just fine and are human beings who deserve (and need) a break now and then! In this digital age we are constantly exposed to information, notifications, updates, etc and rarely have time away from technology. In many ways this is wonderful - you wouldn't be reading this if we didn't have the internet! - and saves us a lot of time, allows us to keep up to date with the latest news, our favourite blogs/celebrities, banking, etc, not to forget all of the tremendous scientific and medical breakthroughs due to technological advancement and access to knowledge. But it also means that we rarely have 'down time' where we can just 'be' and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings, family and enjoy quality real-life time.
How often do you go to bed only to be woken by a notification on your phone? I found that I was spending a ridiculous amount of time on social media - if you have an iPhone you can check how much time you spend on various APPs, I warn you though, it's shocking! As soon as I woke up, throughout the day and then in bed before I went to sleep - I am still very much single, so there's no-one else to actually TALK to, which perhaps makes this a teeny bit more acceptable.... okay, it really doesn't, does it?! I realised that I was feeling anxious, experiencing 'FOMO' (Fear Of Missing Out - I can't believe this is in the dictionary... I feel old!), comparing my life to others (well, the highly edited version that others want to share) and was actually spending most of my life in a 'virtual' existence! Who cares what a 'friend-of-a-friend' had for dinner or even worse, what 'so-and-so' thinks of their ex... - there's a time and a place for airing your dirty linen and on the internet is not one of them! I know more about people I haven't seen (or desire to see) in over two decades, than I know about people I care about! One evening when myself, Dylan and Harry were sat in the lounge together, I noticed that we were all totally absorbed by what was on our phones, not each other. Thats not right is it?!
If you're anything like me, instead of comparing yourself to others - which again can leave you feeling that you're not doing enough, you aren't as successful or a feeling of 'I ought to be doing x,y,z...' and general inadequacy - try to no longer look sideways, be content in the knowledge that right now is what's important and doing what feels right for you is key. All of that pressure and complexity of needing to juggle several things all at once in order to be successful will be gone, because it really isn't necessary! I uncovered a 'to-do' book (one of many!) recently and was totally overwhelmed when I glanced at the 'urgent' task list - just a few of which were ticked off and none of which were actually at all urgent, it was simply undue pressure and expectation that I had placed upon myself, no one else! Now I still keep a list but I'm more realistic about what needs to be done and I simply move items to another day if needs be - I'll be sharing some planning ideas soon.
I've also been trying to de-clutter our home, after hearing rave reviews about the best selling 'Life changing magic of tidying' by Marie Kondo. It's a really fascinating read and is certainly making me see 'belongings' very differently! If you too have cupboards filled with things that you really don't need/use but you just can't throw away, clothes hoarded from years ago that you're convinced you'll 'fit back into' or may come back into fashion, etc - yep, I am ashamed to admit that I possess some 'vintage 90's apparel'... It wasn't great then either! - I urge you to read this book as it really is a life-changer - hence the millions of copies being sold! I am aiming for a lighter, more spacious home over the coming months.. I'll keep you updated!
So, on to my plans and ideas for this little space on the internet... I've decided that I'm going to write more blog posts, but keep them simpler. I really enjoy reading lifestyle, crafting and beauty blogs, so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts, likes and current interests with you! I have temporarily taken my online store page off, as I am currently shaking things up and have a few new ideas on the cards, including digital files, courses and more; of which I'll keep you updated. I've also wanted to create video content for some time, so I've set up my YouTube channel - Eeeeek, super exciting! I'm going to be sharing my projects, planning, scrapbooking, sewing, mixed media art, tutorials, new purchases, lifestyle and beauty favourites, as well as product reviews (craft, lifestyle and beauty related) which will all be posted on here for you!
If you'd like to hear more about how Mindfulness can help to relieve anxiety/stress and enhance the quality of your day to day life, please leave a comment as I'd be happy to share more information! Or perhaps you'd like to hear Marie Kondo's suggestions for a tidier home? I'm really enjoying being creative once again and just 'going with the flow' of what feels right so am open to any of your suggestions/requests!
Here's my first YouTube video, a very short intro' to the channel as I just wanted to get something posted! I've filmed three more videos, so I'll be editing and uploading those over the next week.
