I had not expected to receive so many orders and enquiries so soon, nor so many people following my Facebook page. Each and every 'like' brings a smile to my face and spurs me on to create more items to share with you all. Conversing with pleased customers is as much of a joy to me as is making their bespoke items.
One particular customer has informed me that I am affectionately named as 'The crafty chic lady'! I am very happy with this new title, as I informed her, I could be called much worse! I have made a very special 18th Birthday cushion for her daughter and a Nintendo 2DS case for one of her sons, I am now in the process of making a wall hanging for a bedroom. Thank you Carly Goss for your custom and support at the very start of my business! I am so pleased that you and your lovely family are such fans of my work : ).
Another source of great encouragement has been from the wonderful Jo-Jo Reddin, who I went to school with but have only recently been back in touch with. Thank you Jo-Jo for your amazing words, kindness and support (oh, and the orders!!), also for spreading the word! I can't possibly thank each individual and I fear this post will be reminiscent of an awards ceremony if I continue, but 'Cheers everyone'!! This fortnight's certainly been a fantastic start to my venture, who knows what the next two weeks will bring…?!
My iPad cases have proven to be almost as popular as the personalised cushions, if you do see a design that you like but you have a different tablet, please contact me as I am happy to make them to order.
It's not all wonderful though, so don't see it through rose tinted spectacles! At times I have worried whether I was doing the right thing, would people be interested in my business, etc. I had one negative comment from someone who queried a price, and even though I had received many, many positive comments, this one really got me down! Of course, I have experienced many situations in life and in my previous career, where I have had to deal with people who are unhappy for one reason or another, but it's somewhat different when it is about something that you have created yourself! Much more personal. However, I learnt that you will always have to deal with such people (who, incidentally isn't a customer) and that if people don't appreciate your value, then they're not worth wasting your time thinking about! At this point, I must digress and thank my dear friend, Dee Priest, for her expertise and endless knowledge of crafting, her encouragement, support and advice regarding just about everything! When I have had doubts, she has always lent an understanding ear and put me back on track!
To conclude this post, It HAS been worth every second of thought, effort, screwed up paper balls, unpicking, a measuring tape accessorising every outfit (I even wore it to bed the other night, by accident, obviously!) and the occasional swearing at my sewing machine (I dearly love my machine and must admit that it is not normally the machine at fault…)! I absolutely LOVE Crafted Chic and my customers and am soooo looking forward to every new day and the opportunities that come along. If you're thinking of changing your direction in life, I'd say 'GO FOR IT'! You only live once and as Aristotle said, 'You're never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream'… I will leave you with a spot of the Monkees (I will admit to you that Davy Jones was one of my first crushes as a 'school girl'!)
Thanks for reading and bye-bye for now!
